Public Gothic and How to Sell a Font

I’m not a freak about typography like many designers but I do get excited about great packaging. This morning while on Lovely Package I found myself duped by Antrepo. At first glance I thought I was admiring some gorgeous retro inspired oil cans. But, after closer inspection I discovered that I was in fact looking at a gorgeous sales pitch for their font Public Gothic. Maybe there is something to this typography thing after all.

Because I’m in the midst of an Identity design myself, I’ve been coming across a ton of new work. This project done by Bethany Heck is one of my recent favorites.

Still…nothing compares to the work done for Cavalier Essentials. When I’m done weeping because I didn’t think of first, I’ll be ready to talk about it.

Do Nothing For 2 Minutes

2 minutes doesn’t seem like a lot of time. But, if you take the time to savor each second it feels surprisingly long. In the world of faster, more, and now…I found the site Do Nothing For Two Minutes quite enjoyable. The site simply asks that you do nothing other than listen to crashing ocean waves for 2 minutes. I’ll admit I did not pass the test the first time. But, that was only because I was trying to turn up the volume on my computer.

How will you use your two minutes? Perhaps you’ll use the two minutes to think of about your next project to make. Or perhaps you’ll listen to the waves and transport yourself to another life.

Just received my copy of Like I Give a Frock in the mail so that I can participate in Mrs. Lilien’s book club. I scanned through it quickly and it looks like it has some great illustrations. Yay for new inspiration! Can’t wait to spend more time with it over the weekend. AND if you haven’t checked out Mrs. Lilien’s blog it’s quite fabulous—one of my new favorites because of her exquisite fashion sensibility.

what inspires you?

What inspires you? Recently I was asked to handwrite the answer to this question on a blank piece of paper for a internal work project. (I’ll update you later with the final project from all of these answers.) It’s a hard question for me to answer because I feel like I am inspired by pretty much everything! Anything from patterns in nature to a beautiful photo from a wedding to marc jacobs new collection—it all gets my wheels turning. All in all, I felt like I gave a nice summary of some of my favorite everyday sources.

I also keep monthly inspiration folders on my desktop to house anything and everything that tickles my fancy. Problem is I didn’t keep track of the sources for these images. (I’ll try to fix that this year.) The monthly folders are a great way for me to see design trends and they serve as a great reference if I need inspiration fast. Here are some of my favorites from 2009.
