fashion friday: gorman

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Loving the bright mix matched patterns from Gorman, seems like a great way to transition from winter to spring! via raneytown

Happy weekend everyone! Hope you have some wonderful plans. I’m looking forward to this Sunday for a few reasons. First, I’m playing soccer for the first time in over a year, it’s probably going to be a beautiful disaster but either way I’m pretty stoked. Secondly, it’s Super Bowl Sunday which means awesome commercials and PUPPY BOWL! For the record, the puppies seem to be extra extra adorable this year. As far as super bowl commercials I’ve only seen one so far, The Dog Strikes Back by Volkswagen which is pretty cute, mostly because it involves an adorable dog, (can you see the pattern here?) Needless to say it made me excited for all 2012 Super Bowl ads. Enjoy your weekend!

pantone 2012 color of the year

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

I’m very excited for the 2012 Pantone color of the year; Tangerine Tango, a spirited energetic reddish orange. It’s much better than last year’s color honeysuckle. And if you’re a fan of Tangerine Tango be sure to check out the Pantone fashion color report for Spring 2012 which includes the fiery orange amongst complementary bright and neutral colors (shown in the second image.) I’m really digging the neutrals in the report, especially Margarita, Cockatoo and Driftwood.

a twiggy halloween

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Saturday night consisted of going to the Fillmore in Silver Spring to see Chromeo and Mayer Hawthorne. I had been looking forward to the show for quite some time and I kept going back and forth on whether I should dress up for the concert. At the last minute I decided that I’d be sad if I didn’t. So I spent Saturday putting this twiggy costume together. It wasn’t that complicated. Luckily I found a dress that felt 60s in pattern and cut and I found an awesome photo guide of twiggy doing her eye makeup (shown below). The show was awesome, both Chromeo and Mayer Hawthorne were amazing and I got a few people that recognized my costume! Happy Halloween everyone!

Oakstreet Bootmakers

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

I’ve been on a bit of a quest of late to find a pair of boots that will get me through 3 seasons of unpredictable weather here in New England. Along with the weather, I’ve been hoping to find a pair that will be as functional on my boat as they would be in a nice restaurant.

The current frontrunner in my personal boot derby is a pair from Chicago bootmaker Oakstreet Bootmakers.   While they are ungodly expensive I  subsribe to the philosphy of buy the right things, not a lot of things. So, I’m willing to fork over the money that will last me years to come.

Also, under heavy consideration is the Wabasha boot from Redwing.

derringer friday

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Derringer Friday is a duo of local independent designers creating rad ties and pocket squares in brightly-colored plaids, seersucker and madras. I absolutely love the combination of this last one pictured, the red cotton seersucka.

vintage eyeglasses

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

One of my gee whiskers cards was featured in this treasury on etsy alongside these gorgeous Vintage 50s Sapphire Blue Cat Eye Glasses. And there are even more gorgeous and unique pairs in the Vintage5osEyewear etsy shop including some men’s options too. I’m eyeing this pair, but hesitant to buy glasses via the web. Glasses are more of a try before you buy item. The shop does provide dimensions of the glasses, so I might just photoshop a few pairs on my face to see if they look good—that’s trying right?
