custom vans

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

This weekend I saw a great display of custom vans in the Vans store featuring artist Tony Price. I had ordered a custom pair of lucha vans (shown above) from Tony a little over a year ago. It was a simple process; I gave him the lucha concept and some image references and let him run from there. My favorite part of the final product is the eyes on the back side of the shoes. AND let me just say that the person that I gifted these rad shoes to was in love with them. Tony has a great illustration style and was a real pleasure to work with.

Check out more of Tony’s custom shoe work here and order your very own pair here.

Other custom shoe artists featured: Kyozo Kicks, timrobot & TKDeal

Stunning illustrations by self-taught illustrator Raphael of My Dead Pony. These are my two favorites, but there is plenty more eye candy on his site. I think I might need a print of the top one, “Come Home Little Soul.” You can purchase prints of his artwork directly from his site or here.

society6

I just discovered society 6 through the artist Yellow Bird Machine. (She has some of her artwork available for purchase on society 6.) Similiar to 20 x 200 and tiny showcase, society 6 offers affordable artwork to the masses. In addition it works as a collaborative community for artists to promote and share their artwork. There’s lots of amazing artwork on the site—great for inspiration and beautifying your walls.

Tad Carpenter is an illustrator and designer based out of Kansas City, Missouri. His work might look a little familiar because he’s worked with well-known clients such as Target, Kid Robot, Chronicle Books and Chop Shop Records to name a few. I am in love with his whimsical and graphic point of view—it definitely puts a smile on my face.

Check out more of his work and his blog.
