zbyszek

While in Key West last week I came across the Zbyszek art gallery. I was immediately drawn to the bright colors, movement, textures and abstract figures in the work and I knew that I wanted to purchase one of his pieces to remind me of my trip to Key West. I need to photograph the piece I purchased and I will share it later in the week.

Check out his work. It really is amazing–each piece has so many details that you could stare at one painting for hours. And his wife’s beautiful work is featured on the site too.

More from my trip coming soon.

Last October I purchased one of Kerri Conrad’s pieces at DC’s Crafty Bastards. It was really hard to choose just one, but I ended up deciding on “Skeleton Girl,” (pictured above.) I adore Kerri’s quirky, dark and playful illustration style. Each piece is an original ink drawing that is attached to a wooden plaque, all coated with resin. It’s not obvious in these pictures but the ink drawing is mounted in a way that makes it float in front of the plaque.

See more of Kerri’s work here.

personal business cards

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Since I recently did a small post on business card inspiration I thought I would share the fancy seeing you here business cards and tags. I letterpressed these cards and tags using a Vandercook press. And now for some shameless self-promotion: If you’re interested in having your own letterpress business cards I’m always looking for new projects.

baby shower invites

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I recently designed some baby shower invites for a friend. The sex of the baby was unknown so I tried to stick with a neutral color palette and design. The invites were printed on a laser printer then fabric scraps were attached and sewn on to form mini bunting. I was very happy with the results!

I currently designed some business cards for a friend of mine and wanted to share some of the beautiful cards that I have found during my research. I’ll be sure to show you my finished design once it gets back from the printer.

Picture 10

Turn old sweaters into something new. It’s the simplest form of re-purposing that old sweater you never wear anymore—why didn’t I think of this?! Designer Haik Avanian and her mom are the masterminds behind reknit. For the month of February, send an old sweater to Avanian’s mom and she will transform it into a fabulous pair of cut-off gloves. Each month a different item will be selected based on user votes.

Paper curling and other styles of paper artwork have been really catching my eye lately. I just can’t get over all of the details and layers in each piece.  Yulia Brodskaya is a UK artist that I recently discovered. She creates the most amazing, extremely intricate paper illustrations. See more of her work here.
