the wizarding world of harry potter
Santa brought my family a trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is where I was last week. We had such blast at Universal Studios and I was blown away with all the details of the Harry Potter section of the park; everything from the rides, the buildings, the costumes, the food/drinks—it all gave the feeling that you were in Harry Potter’s world. Even my dad, who is not a fan, was impressed. From a designer’s perspective the signage and packaging was gorgeous and seemed very authentic. Some of my favorite things were drinking Butterbeer, going inside shops like Zonko’s, Honeyduke’s and Ollivanders and riding the Dragon Challenge rollercoaster. Here are a few pictures from the trip.
P.S. If you are headed to the park anytime soon, message me and I’ll give you some tips on what to do first, etc. because boy is it crowded!

The Ruins of Detroit
We have all heard jokes about Detroit and it’s woeful ways as a city. Fact is, the city of Detroit has become synonomis with failure. But, what I’m sure most of us don’t realize is that Detroit was once home to some of the most amazing structures in the country. Remarkably and thankfully, most of these structures are still standing and waiting for an unforseen day when they can be brought back to splendor.
This decay has been wonderfully captured by photographers Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre.

My Dream House
If you happen to follow any home/architecture blogs you will have surely seen this house. Not long ago this home designed by Widjedal Racki Bergerhoff from Stockholm was a blog sensation.
For me personally, it’s still a sensation. This home brought to life many of the traits I have always looked for in a home. Simple, clean, efficient, and most importantly, it blurred the lines between the interior and exterior of the home.

MAKE Sign
This past week I happened to find myself in an old abandonded fire station. Within it, I came across an old slate chalkboard. It was heavy, a bit ricketty, and fire engine red. I loved it immediately. More importantly, I knew right away what I had in store for it.
I’ll be the first to admit that I did draw inspiration from one of my absolute favorite design shops,…the things makers from Portland, Oregon….Official Manufacturing Co.

pantone 2011 color of the year
I much prefer 2010′s turquoise to 2011′s honeysuckle. I guess I’m just not a pink person…what do you guys think?

I can hardly believe it, but it’s been one year since I started fancy seeing you here. So much has happened since then.…I’ve written more than I ever thought I would—137 posts to be exact. I’ve set up my etsy shop. Oh, and one other little thing, I got the guts to quit my job. It’s really been the best year and I look forward to expanding my blog and my shop. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
As a thank you, I’m giving away a set of letterpressed cards from my shop to one lucky reader. Just leave a comment on your favorite post so far. I’ll announce the winner next week.
