crafty bastards recap 1

Overall it was a great Crafty Bastards this year. I felt like there were a lot of new vendors and a wide variety of products in comparison to the past couple years. I walked away with quite a few goodies, mostly gifts but a couple things for myself. Over the next couple of days I’m going to do a recap of my favorite vendors.

Fuzzy Ink was the first booth to catch my eye at the show. I know some people are already sick of mustaches but not me. They offered a wide range of tshirts with very original mustache illustrations and some plush mustaches as well. Check out their online shop.

Illustrators Jen Skelley (top image) and Nate Duval (second image) really caught my eye with their booth full of beautiful and unique prints. I was very close to purchasing a print from them, but couldn’t decide on one!

Tugboat Printshop‘s woodblock prints blew my mind. The illustrations were gorgeous and super detailed. I’m in awe of their wood carving skills. See details of their process here.

Ok, that’s all for today. I’ll share the rest of my favorite vendors tomorrow.

one year

The husband and wife design team from Eight Hour Day have decided to take a remarkable journey across the US for the next year. They will be starting their adventure in Seattle and then off to 10 different cities; about a month in each. (See their route above.) I can’t imagine how amazing and inspiring it will be for them to discover a new city every month.

More details here. Make sure to follow their blog to get their travel updates.

And, definitely check out their awesome portfolio too, if you aren’t already familiar with their stuff.

new york couture

I discovered New York Couture at Virgin Mobile Free Fest on Saturday. The clothing is a harmonious blend of punk-rock cool, ultra-glam and prima ballerina. I’m love with the colors, imagination and whimsy behind each piece especially the burger skirt, owl jumper and birthday cake dress. You’d definitely be turning heads in one of these outfits.

color chips

I love this campaign for Sherwin Williams by Durham, NC agency McKinney. The four print ads feature original color-chip sculptures created by Matthew Sporzynski—my favorite being the ice cream sundae. The tv spots were directed and produced by Buck NY. They use 3D animation to create a beautiful and dynamic color chip world, really showing off Sherwin Williams’ extensive color choices. Both print and tv solidly support the headline “Make the most of your color with the very best paint.”

See the complete campaign here.

Matthew Sporzynksi is also the man behind the beautiful Real Simple Paper Constructions.

the dc | baltimore egotist

In their words: The D.C. | Baltimore Egotist is the brand-spankin’ new place to celebrate great creative from local agencies, artists, and thinkers. It’s like the internet’s throwing a party for you – only there’s no cake and no one’s going to puke behind your couch.

It’s a great design resource and frankly DC is definitely lacking in design resources if you ask me. Reasons you should check it out; it has a job board, you can showcase your portfolio, find local talent,  show off creative and get daily inspiration.

Check the site out here. And follow them on twitter here.

reflective lace

Get noticed with reflective lace from Lost Values—how adorable are the embroidered bicycles especially on the bloomer shorts!

Check out all of their reflective products; my favorite is the super stylish reflective scarf (shown above.) I’m thinking these will be great Xmas gifts for my biking friends.
