Hi everyone! Just wanted to update you on my whereabouts, I recently decided to quit my day job and pursue freelancing full-time as well as designing and selling my own handmade goodies! Which lucky for you means more blogging and crafts from me! Now for some shameless self-promotion…I am available starting now for any freelance opportunities, especially fancy invitation designs which are my specialty. Check out all my work here.
With that said, I’m sorry to say there will be no more Sarah Project posts since that was done in my office and just won’t feel the same if I doing it alone and at home.

I’ve been scouring the internet to find some new artwork to buy for my newly repainted living room and have found plenty of beautiful options. Now I just need to narrow it down… Here are some of my favorites so far.

N.LOVE by Nazario Graziano

Birds of Sadness Poster by Studio on Fire

Lamb No. 1 by Sharon Montrose

Being Nice by Will Bryant

I’m in love with this piece by Andrew Bannecker and I don’t even know if it’s for sale.

And this piece is unfortunately sold out! Tutti Frutti by Hand & Eye
Other places I’ve been checking out: 20×200, Aesthetic Apparatus, El Jefe Design, MySoti, society6 and Zonafoto’s imagekind shop.
If you have any suggestions please share!
p.s. Check out the gorgeous aboriginal artwork that Viv from ish & chi recently bought for her living room.

I’ve had this boxer edition of The Sarah Project planned for quite a while now. We have a punching bag at work with two sets of gloves and I knew that I had to incorporate them into one of the shoots. I also knew that I wanted to have a black eye and be knocked out. To get the knocked out effect, aka seeing birds, I created a little mobile from a wire coat hanger, fishing line and origami birds. I used make-up for the black eye. My friend Matt assisted me with the punches and holding the mobile in place.

Last year at the Smithsonian Craft Show I fell in love with the hand-blown glass work of Carrie Gustafson. What makes her glass work unique is the intricate patterns on vibrantly colored glass. At the time I was taking a basic glass blowing class which made me appreciate the details and beauty of her work even more because let me tell you glass blowing is really hard.
Her technique: On the surface, Gustafson applies an intricate web of stencils on the top layer of ‘flash glass’. Next, sandblasting through to a second, translucent under-layer reveals a matrix of light.
Check out more of her amazing work here.

I want to apologize for my recent disappearance. There have been lots of changes in my life that have been emotionally draining me, (more so than I even realized until recently.) Work has gotten crazy, my best friend moved to Boston, I’m looking for a new roommate—it’s all wearing me out. My solution has been getting lost in a lot of projects.
One of my first projects has been updating my living room, I have been looking at living room furniture sets for a while now . It’s a rental so there are a few things that I just can’t change, (like the awful brown carpet, which I wish I could replace with something from NW Rugs) But I am making the best of what I’ve got. It’s still a big work in progress, but I’m already loving the start.
before:

Changes that I made so far: I painted the red wall back to white. (The 3 coats that it took to cover the red practically crippled my hand.) And I painted the opposite wall BEHR Jamaican Blue. One of the chairs was removed to open up the space. A new, slightly smaller ottoman was purchased and recovered in magenta Joel Dewberry woodgrain fabric. And I switched out the accent lamps. I also got my hands on sound dampening curtains so that I could pump up the volume of my stereo while not disturbing my neighbours’ peaceful life.
after:

I couldn’t be happier with the color. It seems to make the room so much brighter and cleaner looking. I still have plenty to do though. I want to get some curtains for the room and need artwork for the white wall—it’s completely bare right now, but I’m thinking a whole bunch of colorful pieces displayed salon style. New throw pillows are a must. And the biggest thing, I need a new tv stand. I’m leaning towards this one at CB2 but I am open to anything, so please share if you have any suggestions. I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

Over the weekend I attended the Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. I left the exhibit completely WOWed! His extensive experimentation and mastery of printmaking is crazy genius. The exhibit shows his process which makes the prints even more mind-blowing. I was most impressed with a self portrait that was screenprinted with over 200 colors and his fingerprint portraits. This is a must-see if you live in the DC area!
More about the exhibit here.

Adorable 4C screenprinted bicycle poster by Barrel. The second addition of this print is available for pre-order in their shop.

A screenprinted poster designed by Allan Peters for Artcrank 2010 in Minneapolis. (aka a poster party for bike people.) Check out Allan’s entire portfolio—it’s all fantastic design work; really, really top notch. I especially love this birth announcement.
both via French Paper Sample Room
